Nerds 'R Us.

Original post: April 25, 2006

Way back in November, I heard about a new movie I wanted to see. Unfortunately, nobody could tell me when it was supposed to be released. You see, it's a Japanese Anime-style sequel to a video game. Yeah, I'm a nerd. Anyway, due to all kinds of problems, nobody knew when it was going to be brought over to our country. So, I went to Suncoast Video, where I can get pretty much anything. I put down a deposit of five dollars to reserve a copy for me. This was on December 2nd.

In February, I decided to go to the mall to see if there was any news about it. Yeah, there was news, but not the kind I was looking for. Suncoast had gone out of business! What to do? Sam Goody Music next door is owned by the same company, so I went in to ask.

"Uhh... When did Suncoast close?"
"About two weeks ago."
"I reserved a copy of 'Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. Do you know if I can get it here?"
"Yeah, just bring in your receipt for it, and we'll get you a copy."
"Fine."

There, done and done. Now, I just have to wait for it to come out.

April 25. Today. The day has finally arrived! I can't wait.
After my teller meeting (which took far too long) I rushed down to the mall to get it.

"Hi, I reserved a copy of 'Advent Children.'"
"Name?"
"Ian Burgstrum, even though it's spelled wrong."
"I don't see it here, did you reserve it?"
"Yeah, I got my ticket from Suncoast right here."
"Did you re-reserve it here?"
".............No. I was told I just needed to bring this in."
"Well, we're actually sold out except for these ones reserved for other customers."
"I see. When do you expect a new shipment?"
"We put in a call earlier, and it should take 24 hours. You can call tomorrow and see if it's in."
"Uhhh.... All right."

Fuck this, I'm going to Wal-mart. Upon entering their DVD section, I find they have plenty in stock, as well as a two-pack with the grossly underrated Final Fantasy big screen movie that came out in 2001. Fuck you, Sam Goody and company! The way I see it, I'm out five bucks, but you're out a whole fucking business!
