"Nascar fans are like a whole different breed."- Zach Ciemiengo

Original post: April 9, 2006

Last night, Kate, Dan, and myself went to the movies. Upon leaving said movie theater, my phone rang. I did not recognize the number, and I failed to answer before they hung up.

"Where's a 973 area code?"
"Beats me."
"Well, who would be calli..."

It rang again. Same number.

"Hello?"
"Ian!"
"Oh! Ralph! What's up?"
"Nothing much. Where are you?"
"Just got out of the movies. What's this 973 area code?"
"Oh, I left my phone up at school, so I borrowed Anna's. We're home now."
"Great, you wanna get together?"
"Well, it's getting kinda late. We have church in the morning."
"Okay, well, we'll get together tomorrow."
"Right. Bye!"

So, I'm sitting around after I got home, and I thought it would be really great to go to Don Pablo's the next day. That's nothing new. I also wanted to see if Renee wanted to go. It's a bit late now. I'll just call her tomorrow afternoon. I sent a text message to Ralph through Anna's cell.

"Hey. We should go to don pablo's when you guys are free tomorrow. You gotta let me know asap. I might want to bring someone..."

And I waited.

And waited.

And waited some more.

Finally, I passed out. This morning, before I got in the shower, I heard my cell beep.

"Ralph found his phone in his pocket but i'll pass on the message"

It was in his pocket? I texted him.

"It was in your pocket?"
"Ha yeah. It just sang all of a sudden and it was in my pocket."
"Great. So, when do you wanna go?"
"In where?"
"Don pablo's. Anna was supposed to pass along the message."
"Oh, she's at the other end of the house. I don't have any money. :-( "
"That's okay. I'll cover you."
"Aww, you're too good to me. Lol"
"I know."
"So we'll go at 4?"
"Sounds good."

Now, I just gotta get up the nerve to call Renee. I called her twice. First time, no answer. I was talking to Zach online at the time. He thought she might've been at church. Second time, I think I woke her up. Most of her lines were delivered in a delirious manner.

"Hello?"
"Renee?"
"Hey."
"Hey, it's Ian."
"What's going on?"
"Not much. I was wondering, if you're not busy later, some friends and I are going out to Don Pablo's if you wanna come with us."
"Actually, I'm a big Nascar fan, and the race is about to start."
"What was that?"
"I said, I'm a nig Nascar fan and the race is coming on."
"Oh, okay then, uhh... Enjoy it."
"Yeah, but call me some other time."
"Okay. Bye."
"::click::"

No bye? Whatev'. So, I was still talking to Zach online at the time, and I told him about it. Please excuse any misspellings on his part.

"great, she's a nascar fan..."
"i knew it. i fuckin knew it."
"did you?"
"i was gonna say it earlier. i sware to go. instead of church i was gona say nascar. but i saw nascar on tv yesterday. so i figured it wasn't today"
"man, you're good. fuckin nascar."
"yea"
"so, she's gonna stay home and watch cars go around in a circle for four hours instead of having dinner with me. something odd about that?"
"nascar fans are like a whole different breed"

So, once again, I shall be spending the evening as the third wheel. Always have, always will.
